As further proof that D.C. scenesters always have and always will put the rest of us to shame in the motivation department, Minor Threat guitarist Lyle Preslar graduated from Rutgers School of Law-Newark this past May, according to an article in the faculty and staff publication Rutgers Focus.

Preslar, who has an undergraduate degree in English from Georgetown, has mostly worked in the music business since his tenure in the legendary hardcore band. He spent time in A&R, marketing, label management, and contracts for various labels (Virgin, Elektra, and Caroline among them) until he decided to take the LSAT in 2003 and head to law school in 2004, something he once said he would never do.

While in law school, he wrote a paper that was recently published in the Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment and Technology Law and won a writing competition award sponsored by the Grammy Foundation and the American Bar Association. The paper delved into issues stemming from a copyright infringement suit brought against XM Satellite Radio by-- who else?-- the RIAA.

Preslar currently lives in Hoboken with his wife, who is an executive at VH1. Though he claims his wife would like to see him do court work, he told Rutgers Focus that the future more likely holds "a world of contracts for me. So, let's just hope that at least once in a while I'm working on the right side of the fence...and that I get some free tickets." Shouldn't he have gotten those already with his Minor Threat membership card?
