Neil Young's Greendale to Become Graphic Novel

Nerdy folk-rock fans, rejoice! According to Rolling Stone, at this weekend's Comic-Con, DC Comics imprint Vertigo announced that they will release a graphic novel based on Neil Young's 2003 concept record (and accompanying film) Greendale. (We expect a series of collectible cups will not be available at your neighborhood Burger King shortly.)

The book's narrative-- much like the album's-- concerns "a teenager and burgeoning activist whose life is changed when a mysterious stranger pays a visit to her small town." Greendale, being an album and everything, wasn't long on plot, but squeezed in quite a bit of detail, which should be perfect for the graphic novel format.

No release date has been set for the comic, but here's a bit of joy to tide you over: the Greendale book "will be written by Joshua Dysart, who recently crafted Avril Lavigne's manga, Make 5 Wishes." Finally, an excuse to get these two towering beacons of story-song together for a record!

Like they always do about this time of year, Neil, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews (now an official partner, it seems) will bring their Farm Aid concert to New York's Randalls Island on September 9. The full lineup hasn't been announced yet, but if you're a band with a dobro, expect a call.
