Sufjan, McBean on Chris Schlarb's Asthmatic Kitty LP

"Schlarb" is a really fun word to say
Sufjan, McBean on Chris Schlarb's Asthmatic Kitty LP

How does one flip a life as a UPS driver, a beatmaker, and a father into that of an indie-folkie/free-jazzbo? Perhaps only renaissance guy Chris Schlarb can say for sure. Papa Schlarb, when not running the Sounds Are Active label or performing in the free jazz groups Create (!) and I Heart Lung, has been raiding his address book for Twilight and Ghost Stories, his guest-laden Asthmatic Kitty solo debut.

Schlarb's 40-minute, single-track composition is out December 4. He's joined in his quest to test your patience by Sufjan Stevens (who contributes piano), Black Mountain's Stephen McBean (who "muses inaudibly about music boxes"), Castanets frontguy Ray Raposa, Dirty Projectors main man Dave Longstreth, Liz Janes, Half-Handed Cloud's John Ringhofer, Future Rapper's Michael Kaufmann, Sandy Ewan of Weird Weeds, and many others. It was recorded in parts on a Parisian hill, in an Icelandic home designed by a Nazi, and all over these United States.
