Good tunes and good causes collided Friday night at Portland's Jupiter Hotel as two of the Rose City's finest sons, Stephen Malkmus and Shins frontman James Mercer, politely rocked the Buckman Bash benefit for their hometown's arts-centric Buckman Elementary School.

Mr. Mercer has a pretty clean docket in the months to come, but Mr. Malkmus will keep things dirty, spreading Real Emotional Trash across both sides of the pond this spring.
