Mashup Pioneer Steinski Gets Career Retrospective
Steve "Steinski" Stein has long been celebrated for his deft hand with the sampler and an almost total disregard for copyright law. So throw another honor on the pile: a career overview, spanning two discs and over two decades.
The veteran producer/masher-upper is set to release What Does It All Mean? 1983-2006 Retrospective, which gathers 14 Steinski/Double Dee & Steinski gems on its first disc and the pastiche classic Nothing to Fear on its second. Nothing to Fear, in particular, impresses, gathering as it does little bits and pieces of some of your favorite tunes in a masterfully-sequenced way.
Indeed, it's all a bit reminiscent of that Girl Talk feller, and fittingly, it will arrive May 27 via Girl Talk's label home, Illegal Art.
