Sorry Mr. Pollard, I believe your invitation was lost in the mail
Flaming Lips Help Pearl Jam, Foos Fete the Who on VH1

"VH1 Rock Honors" is an annual tribute concert filmed for the purpose of boring a hole in the endless "Celebrity Fit Club" marathon paying homage to some of rock's greats. Past honorees include ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Kiss, Heart, and the Ozzman. This year's recipient of the big sloppy kiss is none other than the Who. Congratulations, guys, you deserve it!

But hey, Rog and Pete don't need us to remind them of their greatness. They've got the Flaming Lips, Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters ready and willing to pat them squarely on the back-- and blast through some of their biggest hits-- at the July 12 taping of the event at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. All three bands will "deliver a night of high-voltage tribute performances," according to a press release, which, of course, is a mere aperitif for "the spectacular grand finale performance by the Who as they rock the stage."

My guess is that the Foos rig the drums with gunpowder, Moon-style, Eddie Vedder gives a long speech about what Quadrophenia really means to all of us, and Wayne and the boys blast their way through their kickass "Baba O'Riley" cover. But, hey, I've been fooled into raising my expectations for Who tribute shows before, and I'm not about to let that happen again.

The show premieres July 17 on VH1, and will never be seen again after its initial airing. Just like all those episodes of "Celebrity Fit Club".
