Since the album-a-year pace clearly isn't enough for her, Deerhoof's Satomi Matsuzaki has taken up a few side endeavors in recent months. Back in February, the feisty frontwoman unveiled her Oneone project with Tenniscoats' Saya Ueno, while this past weekend she joined Tussle's Tomo Yasuda and Yasuda's Coconut bandmates Colter Jacobsen and Keiko at San Francisco's Knockout to showcase a little new something called Lets.
With Satomi on guitar and vocals, Lets served up a brief, relatively mellow set of groove-laden, experimental pop punctuated by occasional bursts of noise and dissonance-- not unlike what one would expect from an act comprised of members of Deerhoof and Tussle.
Also on the bill Friday night: kinetic Berkeley combo Tempo No Tempo and local newcomers the Splinters. Check out photos of all three acts below.
Deerhoof plan to hit us with their Friend Opportunity follow-up in October. Before that they have a few North American shows, plus a tour of Japan next month that finds the quartet sharing stages with Xiu Xiu, Mika Miko, Panther, Shugo Tokumaru, and the aforementioned Tenniscoats.
