Deerhoof Reveal LP Info, Invite Fans to Interpret Song
Greg Saunier collaborates with Jon Brion, Wilco's Nels Cline on Will Ferrell movie music
Wake up Maggie, I think Deerhoof got something insulting to say to you. At least, that's what we gather from the title of the previously discussed new album from the frolicsome Bay Area foursome, Offend Maggie.
Packing in 14 new jams and split down the middle into two "acts", Offend Maggie arrives October 7 via Deerhoof's longtime label home, Kill Rock Stars. It's the full-length follow-up to last year's Best New Music-inducted Friend Opportunity, which Deerhoof have likely blown by rubbing Maggie the wrong way.
And while Maggie may be miffed, Deerhoof fans will delight in knowing they'll soon have access to the written score to an as-yet-unspecified new number off Offend. The downloadable score will appear on some kind of interactive website Deerhoof are cooking up, and fans will have the opportunity to record their interpretations of it and upload them to the site. File this one next to the Radiohead's "Nude" remix contest, that sing-over-Xiu Xiu thing, and all the other zeitgeisty, fourth-wall-hopping interactive web adventure stuff that's been happening a lot lately.
In other dispatches from the Deerhoof front, Greg Saunier recently teamed with Jon Brion and Wilco's Nels Cline to play some music for the forthcoming Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly vehicle Step Brothers, while Deerhoof, side excursions behind them for the moment, have a handful of dates fast approaching. Keep an eye out for a Deerhoof world tour in the fall, too.
