Hold Steady, Liars, Deerhunter, Aesop Rock Hit the Pool
For the last couple years, the folks at JellyNYC have brought a series of free Sunday afternoon concerts to Williamsburg, Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool, allowing Williamsburg's indie-rock inclined (everyone under 60, from what I gather) yet another chance to collectively sweat to the strains of some fine, fine tunes. The name of this concert series? The Pool Parties. (No, there's no water in the pool. Sorry.)
The lineup for this year's series of Pool Parties is coming together quite nicely at the moment, and we're laying it out for you just a few weeks in advance of the season's first big splash.
June 29 kicks things off in high style, with performances from the Hold Steady, the Loved Ones, and J. Roddy and the Business. The next weekend finds rock legend Ronnie Spector (of the Ronettes) joined by the Rabbit Factory Soul Revue featuring Roscoe Robinson, Ralph "Soul" Jackson, Hermon Hitson, and Wiley & the Checkmates. You've got Matt and Kim, the Whip, and a "super secret headliner" the next week, and a full-on assault the week after that when Liars, Fuck Buttons, Team Robespierre and DJ Andrew WK rock the shit out of your Sunday.
There's MGMT, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and the Ting Tings July 27, and a Black Lips/Deerhunter/King Khan/Tall Firs onslaught the following week. There's an Aesop Rock/Panther bill on August 17, and August 10 and August 24 are TBA at the moment.
No matter the bill though, heading to McCarren Park's still the best thing to do on a Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg, unless your grandma lives there or something.
