Islands/Unicorns Offshoot Th' Corn Gangg Return, Again
Lineup features Nick Thorburn, Jamie Thompson, Busdriver, 2Mex
You know, that Nick Thorburn fella's got himself a lot of bands. Sure, there's Islands, currently on the road in support of last month's fine Arm's Way LP. There's the recently announced Human Highway project he's got going with Canadian songwriter Jim Guthrie, who will issue their debut set Moody Motorcycle August 19. There's plenty more, of course, in various stages of existence. And then there's Th' Corn Gangg, the long-running, not exactly overactive hip-hop project from Thorburn and his former Islands/Unicorns compatriot Jamie Thompson. See? Lotta bands.
So, on the occasion of a rare off night on Islands' current tour, Th' Corn Gangg will take the stage tonight (June 18) at Los Angeles' Low End Theory night at the Airliner for their first gig in years. Tonight's Gangg includes Thorburn and Thompson, plus rappers Busdriver, and 2Mex of the Visionaries. The show will also feature performances from Daddy Kev, Nobody, D-Styles, and Nocando.
No telling what this performance means with regard to Th' Corn Gangg's long-promised LP, but no other shows are scheduled at this time. Islands, on the other hand, soldier forth with the rest of their tour.
