McCartney Plans Rooftop Redux, Readies Roadshow

An antiques roadshow, perhaps? ZANG!

Well, with that pesky George out of the picture, looks like Macca's out to desecrate The Beatles' legacy in the name of a buck any old way he can. In honor of his first tour of the United Kingdom in ten years (not, of course, in honor of, say, the fucking Beatles), Wings frontman and Michael Jackson collaborator Paul McCartney will recreate The Beatles' infamous Let It Be rooftop gig atop Apple Studios in early April-- by his damnself.

Naturally, the world we live in now is a bit different from that of 1969, the year of the original Beatles rooftop appearance. For starters, Apple Records no longer owns the building at 3 Saville Row. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, precautions are being taken to make sure that the police don't break up the show, as happened in 1969. Thirdly, this one's actually a publicized event, rather than an impromptu jam. And, oh yeah, two of those old guys are dead. No word yet on whether he'll play the original setlist, though we have to say it'd be damn funny to hear him fucking up all three runthroughs of "Get Back" again.

After that nail's been coffinized, McCartney will commence with the what-the-fuckly named "Back in the World" tour, which will have "the cute Beatle" playing 24 dates-- exclusively in Europe! McCartney has said that he expects to play upwards of 20 Beatles songs, as well as a number of Wings and solo tunes during each night's two-and-a-half hour performance. He will, presumably, be sure to note before breaking out his golden chestnuts from the 60s that they are now credited to, ahem, "McCartney/Lennon". Let it go, Sir Paul, let it go.

In another act of hubris lacking any sense of self-parody, McCartney also plans to serve as his own warm up band! Yes, Macca will unveil his ambient/electronica alter ego, The Fireman-- who released two albums with Orb collaborator Youth in the 1990s-- at these shows. If nothing else, being one's own opening act should cut down on the wait between sets. Tickets are sold out, so if you don't have ducats already, you'll never find out.
