Mark Kozelek Sets Winter Dates For Rare Solo Tour
Ashcroft: "WHAT color were you paintin' them houses, boy?"

Mark Kozelek, leader of the Red House Painters and the new Sun Kil Moon, is playing a handful of solo acoustic dates across the country in December and January. As previously reported a few weeks ago by our Rod Waterman, Kozelek's debut album with Sun Kil Moon, Ghosts of the Great Highway, is out this month on Jetset. According to the label, a lengthy Sun Kil Moon tour is apparently in the works for early in 2004.

Between this tour and that, Kozelek will be on the road at length for the first time since 2001's Red House Painters tour in support of Old Ramon. Before that, the Painters had not toured since 1997. Though the esteemed slo-core act has been on the shelf for about as long as our Walt Mink hats, the existence of Sun Kil Moon does not mean that Kozelek's old group is defunct; in fact, he recently told Billboard that he's "really confident that the Red House Painters will one day record another album." Sweet assorted nuts. Dates:

12-05 Chicago, IL - Schuba's
12-07 Boston, MA - Middle East
12-09 New York, NY - Fez
12-17 Seattle, WA - Crocodile Cafe
01-17 Los Angeles, CA - Troubadour
01-22 San Francisco, CA - Great American Music Hall
