Galaxie 500 to Release 2xDVD in June
Wareham's off-key warble to have viewers searching for tracking cue

Though its members haven't been united as a band since Dean Wareham quit to form Luna in 1991, Galaxie 500 were recently able to get past any old differences they may have had to compile material for a double DVD release, now planned for a June 29th release via Plexifilm. Titled for the near-seven-minute Jonathan Richman cover on their classic 1988 debut, Today, Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste will compile a just-insane amount of previously unseen material-- including 3½ hours of live performances of more than 40 songs and an unaired interview and in-studio performance for UK television-- and all of their videos, shot by photographer Sergio Huidor. Additionally, the set's accompanying booklet features interviews with each member by Yo La Tengo bassist/keyboardist James McNew.

The 40 songs performed live on the box set are culled from eight different shows, some shot professionally, and some by fans. Spanning the band's entire career, the footage documents shows ranging from Boston's Middle East in 1988 to a concert at the University of London in November 1990, and features virtually every song from the band's three albums-- Today, 1989's On Fire, and their 1990 swan song This Is Our Music-- as well as two which have never been released in any form: "Buzz in My Head" dates back to 1988, but was never put to tape in a studio; "Back in Your Life" dates from the same era, and is another cover of a Jonathan Richman song originally performed with The Modern Lovers on their 1979 album of the same name.
