Franz Ferdinand Reveal New Single Details

If you were the British music press, you'd have a field day with Franz Ferdinand too. They're the perfect magazine cover band: catchy name, cool clothes, wacky haircuts, legions of fans, and they keep their latest musical developments shrouded in secrecy, dropping hints along the way. But, most importantly, they have the musical talent to back that shit up (unlike some British flavors of the week, not naming any names...). We here in the Western Hemisphere are endlessly appreciative of the constant hounding by our colleagues in England. Seriously, NME, Q, Uncut, et al. must have a crack team of journalists/spies hot on FF's trail at all times!

Well, the good folks at the NME have uncovered the shocking truth behind Franz Ferdinand's new single. Are you ready? It's called "Do You Want To", and it will be hitting UK shelves on September 19. Other likely singles on the sophomore album Franz Ferdinand (yes, just like the first), which is just about finished, include "The Fallen", "Walk Away", and "Turn It On". That album hits international stores on October 3 and will reach the U.S. on October 4.

The Franziest of Ferdinands Alex Kapranos told NME that the new single is based on a party the band went to in Glasgow. "I picked up the guitar and had this little riff that I quite liked and I started singing some of these things that people had been yelling into my ear the night before. Suddenly, it turned into this song," Kapranos told the magazine.

Some of those sweet nothings turned into lyrics such as "When I woke up tonight I said 'I'm gonna make somebody love me'" and "So here we are at the transmission party/ I love your friends they're all so arty oh yeah." Transmission party!? I hope this was a Joy Division-themed affair.

Franz Ferdinand's previously announced North American tour has gained some heavyweight support: Aussie 80s synth lovers Cut Copy will open, followed by hip-hop/electronic/soul/indie/dance/whatever lovers TV on the Radio, who are currently in the midst of finishing an album themselves, but that's another news story altogether.
