MPAA RATING: R for sexual content, nudity and language

Starring Gina Pareño, Dan Alvaro, Mercedes Cabral, Julio Diaz, Jacklyn Jose, Kristoffer King, and Coco Martin

Serbis, from acclaimed Filipino director Brillante Mendoza, is about the Pineda family, who operates and lives in a run-down movie house that shows dated sexy double-feature films. As they go about their daily activities, we get a glimpse of how the family suffers and deals with each other’s sins and vices. Preoccupied with their own personal demons, they are unmindful that inside their movie theater another kind of business is going on between the “serbis” boys and the gay patrons. (Regent Releasing)

Serbis may be a raunch-fest, but it's also a mind-trip--a raunch-fest with ideas.

The Onion (A.V. Club) Scott Tobias
At its best, Serbis is a vibrant slice of life that establishes this theater as a living organism, nurturing a society of outcasts; it's like "Ship Of Fools" with blowjobs and boil-lancings.

The New York Times Manohla Dargis
Gentle, bawdy and at times rambunctiously, ticklishly rude.

The Hollywood Reporter Maggie Lee
The camera explores each nook and cranny of the dilapidated movie-house like an usher who knows his way round blindfolded, and the building, with its richly visual interior structures desperately in need of an overhaul, comes to symbolize poetically the predicament of its inhabitants and their moral ambiguity.
