Marmol won't just be handed job as closer
After losing to Kerry Wood last March in the three-way race for the Cubs' closer's job, Carlos Marmol is ready to take over in 2009. "I'd love to," Marmol said. "I've always said before I want to be a closer one day, and now I think I've got it." Well, not quite.
Cubs show massive turnover from 2007
When Year 3 of the Lou Piniella era begins Friday in Mesa, Ariz., only seven players from the 2007 Opening Day roster will be there. Massive turnover usually is expected when a team struggles. But considering the Cubs won 85 and 97 games the last two years, the overhaul is somewhat surprising.
