"Crystal Mines" [Video Premiere]

Pitchfork.tv: CFCF: "Crystal Mines" [Video Premiere]

If last year's boomlet in "crystal" bands is your idea of a horror movie, you're in luck. A little misguided, maybe, but in luck. On "Crystal Mines", from the upcoming Panesian Nights EP, Montreal DJ/producer CFCF, probably best known so far for remixes of Sally Shapiro and others, fries some analogue circuitry that sounds somewhere between the Castle-y "crystal" band and Truckasauras-- lots of floaty 1980s-PBS-special chords and video-game blips, assembled around an unhurried melody. The video pulls together some spooky archival footage from the 1974 French film Nuits Rouges; basically, watch out for dudes in ski masks. Hell, if people are wearing lots of winter gear where you are, better just watch out for everybody. As back in the early-electro days when CFCF's gear was probably invented, the world is a scary place.
