"Me & Mary" [Video Premiere]

Pitchfork.tv: Asobi Seksu: "Me & Mary" [Video Premiere]

"Say goodbye," Asobi Seksu sing on "Me & Mary", one of the best songs from forthcoming third album Hush, even as they say hello (again) to waves of shoegaze distortion layered over sugary indie-pop melodies. The video for "Me & Mary", directed by Aaron Stewart-Ahn and illustrator Dan-ah Kim, shows singer Yuki Chikudate and guitarist James Hanna performing in front of a shifting background. Like the previously posted "Familiar Light", it's closer to Ecstasy & Wine-era My Bloody Valentine than the pitch-bending explosions of Loveless-- and thus closer to today's jangly hearts-on-their-sleeves groups like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart than the messier likes of Serena Maneesh or Deerhunter. Not that it's all black and white, though, even if Asobi Seksu's outfits here are; stay tuned for the drum-crashing crescendo at the end.
