Cedar Rapids local option sales tax, March 2009

A Cedar Rapids local option sales tax will be on the March 3, 2009 ballot in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The ballot measure will ask the city's voters to approve a 1-percent local-option sales tax for five years, with collection of the tax to begin April 1.
The language of the ballot measure will state that the city of Cedar Rapids will use the revenue in two ways: 20 percent for property-tax relief; and 80 percent for flood protection and for the acquisition and rehabilitation of flood-damaged housing.[1]
If the tax is approved, it is expected to raise between $18 million and $23 million for the city every year.
