Jandek Planning to Tour!

Since recording Ready for the House in 1978, Jandek has performed a total of three concerts, the first in October 2004 and the remaining two in May of this year. The man is reclusive, to say the least, but he has seemingly decided that playing live can be a solid endeavor, and has announced his first three American engagements for this coming August and September. Long-time fans may feel torn between joy at this momentous opportunity and disappointment that the mysteries of Jandek are slowly being revealed, but the fact is that mysteriousness is still winning-- details are slim, at best. According to jandekinaustin.com, the first U.S. show will take place in Austin on August 25 at the Scottish Rite Theatre, with two more shows in New Orleans and New York during the first week of September. The site adds, "Tickets will go on sale soon at this website," with a maximum of two tickets per purchaser.

As far as confirmation goes (Jandek's mail order label Corwood Industries was conveniently offline as of last night), local New Orleans radio station WTUL claims sponsorship of the event on their site, adding that Jandek will be accompanied by "special guests." The previous UK performances featured Richard Youngs on bass and Alex Neilson on drums, but of course with Jandek it's hard to know what to expect. Seth Tisue's indispensible A Guide to Jandek has posted a reply to an inquiry from the New York venue's management saying, "I can indeed confirm the performance. Tickets will be released on sale August 8 and will be available in person at Anthology Film Archives and Other Music. There will be no phone or internet sales. Price: TBA." By the way, Jandek has released three albums this year: When I Took That Train, Glasgow Sunday (a document of his first live performance), and Raining Down Diamonds.
