Lily Allen's Visa Revoked, U.S. Dates in Jeopardy
Yep, another week, another visa debacle. According to a BBC News report, outspoken pop tart/shoemaker Lily Allen was detained at Los Angeles International Airport this past Sunday (August 5), questioned, and stripped of her U.S. work visa.
The revocation stems from Allen's having allegedly assaulted a photographer in London back in March, although an Allen spokesperson, quoted in the BBC story, assured that "all her commitments will carry on as normal. The work visa will be sorted out by her next visit."
Those commitments include a previously reported string of U.S. shows that kicks off September 6 in San Diego, giving Lily's camp just under a month to clean things up. Speaking to Billboard.com, Lily's manager, Neale Easterby, acknowledged the detainment but insisted there was no reason to worry. "It's rubbish. There's no story; it's all good. She's in Las Vegas right now, and she will be there until Thursday shooting a video with Common and Kanye West [for Common's 'Drivin' Me Wild']...It's all going to be sorted out."
Between the video shoot and the planned U.S. tour, Allen will play shows in Europe and South America.
As Allen said in a statement quoted in the BBC report, "I am trying everything I can to sort this out. It is my intention to play my American dates in September. This depends on the authorities granting me a new work visa. I want my fans to know that I will do everything I can to be back in America in September. I don't like letting my fans down and this is a situation that I am sure we can sort."
If for some reason it's not sorted out, this won't be the first time Lily has to cancel a U.S. jaunt.
