Very rarely will I stumble upon a designer that simply blows my mind, but Vicious Dolls is one of those designers. Her clothes look as if they jumped straight out of a high budget movie set- Victorian style with a futuristic flair. The have all the elegance and romanticism that is associated with the bourgeoisie ladies, yet the styles and patterns are completely unconventional and avant-garde. Some are bold and colorful while others stick to black and white; some simple and classic, while others are more modish and flashy.

I am a sucker for chic gothic clothing, but am sick of seeing the same repetitive styles that can be found in just about every “alt” store in every mall across the country. But thankfully I was recently introduced to a site called Heavy Red. Their styles are classic gothic yet unique, sticking to the formulas I adore but giving me something different.

The other day I finally realized the severity of my shopping addiction. I was trying to pack just one more black velvet blazer into my closet, and the sliding door just busted off its track. The closet was so jam-packed that it just rejected any more pieces of clothing being shoved into it. Keep in mind, this occurred after the bottom of my drawers had already collapsed. I know what you’re thinking- just stop shopping! But alas, I have found a better alternative. The Velvet Garden, a site dedicated to the buying and selling of gothic clothing.

If any of you fellow horror freaks are anything like me, you probably haven't seen your natural hair color since you were 12. Boredom would take over, and I would dye my hair every six months. Then I went black, and, well, you know the saying. So I found a fun alternative to chopping my hair off or destroying it with bleach: wigs and hair extensions. But I recently discovered something even more fun and unique.

Nothing can make a woman feel as dangerously sexy as lace and leather. Ok, I know what you’re thinking. Leather obviously has that renegade chick connotation to it, but lace? I am not talking about those frilly doilies your mom made you wear back in the day. I’m talking about lace in the context of Victorian, steam-punk style.

I can’t even begin to count the number of gore-gore girls I know who claim they love vintage clothes, yet are too afraid to wear them. They dish out a multitude of compliments when I put on one of my dresses, and go gaga over pictures in magazines. Yet they hide behind the excuse, “Oh, but I could never pull that look off.” Poppycock! Every female can pull off just about any style when she has the confidence.

Ok, so I admit it, I am a slave to fashion. A full-blown shopaholic. Unfortunately, I tend to shop beyond my means. I try to control myself, really, but there are just so many adorable items out there beckoning for me to come rescue them from their retail prisons. And yes, I know, our economy is falling down, down, down, but try telling that to my credit cards. But, alas, if you are like me, there are ways to shop smart and still maintain that style you so crave. No, I am not trying to sell you a self-help book or admit you into shoppers anonymous. I am trying to give you aspiring fashionitas a helping hand.
