International Council

The Initiatives of Change International Council offers leadership in setting priorities for global action and solving problems. Its 7-9 members serve for 3-5 years. It plays an important role in setting IofC's global agenda, but has no powers other than its own moral authority. Its Secretary is Tehmina Siganporia.

Lorne Braun

Lorne Braun currently works as a consultant to Canadian NGOs doing humanitarian work throughout the world. His first career was in building technology, compliance and management. The past 24 years were spent in international development: working and consulting with NGOs, the private sector, and the Canadian Government. He also spent four recent years teaching international non-profit management at a college in North Vancouver. Lorne has an MA in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University in Victoria, Canada. His research on the Eritrean-Ethiopian conflict has led to facilitated dialogue work in Canada and the UK. Lorne has been a member on various Boards including his local church, the Vancouver Airport multi-faith chaplaincy, and several Canadian and international NGO coalitions.He has travelled extensively, including three years working in Ethiopia with his wife Joyce and then infant daughter, Megan. In recent years Lorne has been involved with the IofC Canada Council on which he currently serves as Chair.

 
Hennie de Pous-de Jonge

After training to be a teacher Hennie de Pous-de Jonge worked for five years with MRA in Asia, Australia and New Zealand. On her return to the Netherlands she became editor of Nieuw Wereld Nieuws, later called Ander Nieuws, the Dutch MRA/IofC publication. She has with her husband organised programmes and conferences for families and youth both in the Netherlands and in IofC’s conference centre in Caux, Switzerland. From 1980 till 1990 she held different positions in the Christian Democratic Party (CDA) both national and local. From 1990 till 2000 she taught in a primary school in a multicultural area in the The Hague. Since 2000 she has been involved in intercultural and interreligious dialogue in the Netherlands resulting in several conferences in Caux on the Spiritual Factor in Secular Society and A Heart and A Soul for Europe. She is also involved in the programme for Peace and Trust Building Initiatives with IofC. She is author of Reiken naar een nieuwe wereld (Reaching out for a new world), which deals with the history of Oxford Group, Moral Rearmament and Initiatives of Change in the Netherlands since 1924. Published by the renowned Dutch publisher Kok in Kampen, the book takes an honest look at the development of the movement and its ideas against the historical background. She is married to Johannes de Pous. They have three grown up children.

 
Will Jenkins

Will Jenkins, from the United States, works in political communications in Washington, DC. He has served as the Director of Communications for Initiatives of Change-USA. He was also part of the leadership team for the ACTION (for a change) initiative. He has worked for several international organizations and founded and directed his own local nonprofit, which engaged the performing arts to address contemporary social issues. He has professional experience on both the performance and production sides of theater, radio and television. He is a trained mediator and has an M.A. in Intercultural Communications.

 
 
 
Nombulelo Khanyile

Nombulelo Khanyile was born in Kroonstad, South Africa in 1951. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University Of Fort Hare and in 2005 obtained an MBA specialising in Tourism. She has worked with Initiatives of Change in several countries including Canada, USA, U.K, Namibia and Zimbabwe. She was married to Vusi for 21 years and they have three children, two boys – Thulani and Phakade and a daughter Ndoni. Since 2003 she has helped co-ordinate Clean Africa Campaign Leadership Training Programmes, which aim to nurture servant leadership among professionals. Nombulelo is also interested in reconciliation and programmes that empower women to be change agents. She has recently become a director of ‘Back 2 Health Africa’, a company that has developed training programmes that empower individuals and organisations to better manage their health.

 
Andrew Lancaster

In 1965, impelled by the vision of a different world, Andrew deferred his Civil Engineering studies in Melbourne for 12 months to make himself available to the program of MRA (now IofC) in Australia. That deferral became a calling and has continued to this day. In the interim he has worked for longer periods in New Zealand, India, North America and Britain. For the last 30 years he has lived in Canberra, where part of his and Margaret’s outreach is to the national Parliament. He and Margaret have three adult sons and two grandsons. He has served on IofC’s Council of Management in Australia for over 25 years and co-edited the World Bulletin (forerunner of Global Update) for 12 years. From June 2003 until October 2006 he was National Coordinator for Initiatives of Change in Australia.

 
Grace Liu

Grace Liu was born in Taiwan, and is a teacher by training. She is married to Ren-Jou Liu and they have two grown-up children. Along with her husband she has worked with Initiatives of Change since 1984. Since then they have worked together not only to care for Chinese in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China but also in Asia. Together they began giving training to youth and initiated the Asian Pacific Youth Conferences for East Asia which have now extended to include South East Asia and the Pacific region. They also initiated the Action for Life (AfL) programme and have been involved in the three AfL programmes. In Taiwan they set up the IofC Association and Grace has served on the board as General Secretary, Board Member and Treasurer for the last 15 years. She and Ren-Jou started the “Clean Election Campaign” in Taiwan and enlisted a nationwide team and worked with it for seven years as well as accepting to go to Brazil to help them do the same. In 2005 they also set up the “IofC EQ Family Development Association” and run family workshops for parents to learn the spirit and skills of how to change themselves first if they want their families to become happier.

 
K Haridas

Born in Malaysia where he had his primary and secondary school education before departing in 1967 for India for his University studies. Whilst at University he met the work of MRA-IofC in December 1969. He took a year of his studies to work with MRA-IofC and continued his full time involvement until June 1984. Since returning to Malaysia he has been the Executive Director of an Educational Foundation, a position he still holds. He is a graduate in Law and Communication Studies and also holds Post-Graduate Diplomas in Shariah Law, Accounting & Finance and Project Management. He is presently the Vice-Chair of MRA Malaysia and is also active with several NGO’s in Malaysia in the areas of Inter-faith and Justice issues. He is married to Tia who is a home maker and they have three daughters.

 
Inese Voika

Inese Voika comes from Latvia. She was first trained and worked as investigative journalist. In 1998 Inese created Transparency International-Latvia, which has now become a flagship of Latvia's civil society working on party finance reform and ethics of the government officials. She has served on the international Board of TI, the international anti-corruption organization working in 85 countries. Inese has a degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, which she completed in 2005 as a Fulbright scholar and bachelors degree in Communications from University of Latvia. Currently Inese is engaged in leadership training and serves on the Board of Directors of TI Latvia. Inese has been with IofC since 1992 . She has been active in the ‘Baltic Sea Round Table’ and now is working to establish a training network in the region. She is married with two small children.
