Illinois defensive tackle suspended indefinitely

Josh Brent arrested Saturday on suspicion of DUI

Illinois defensive tackle Josh Brent, expected to be a starter next season, was arrested at 1:37 a.m. Saturday for suspicion of driving under the influence in Urbana.

Brent, 21, was driving on a suspended license, the Champaign County state’s attorney’s office said.

The sophomore from Bloomington Central Catholic missed the first two games last season for reasons the school did not disclose. He played 10 games and had 34 tackles, including 11/2 sacks.

“We are aware of the situation,” coach Ron Zook said in a statement. “He has been suspended from the team indefinitely until we are able to gather all the facts. It’s in the hands of the authorities right now and we will continue to monitor the information.”
