T.A.F.F.Y. AWARDS
TEEN AWARDS for FAVORITE FILMS of the YEAR: The TAFFY winners!
There's so little unanimity in life these days, but voters in the Teen Awards for Favorite Films of the Year came darn close in choosing " The Dark Knight's" Joker as their favorite movie villain of 2008.
Heath Ledger's inimitable portrait of chaotic malevolence left his scant competition—Obadiah Stone ( Jeff Bridges) of " Iron Man," Dan White ( Josh Brolin) in "Milk" and Father Flynn ( Philip Seymour Hoffman) in "Doubt" were among those garnering a few votes—in the wake of his stolen police car.
Other winners included Tony Stark ( Robert Downey Jr.) in "Iron Man" as best movie hero; Ledger again, this time as best actor; Kristen Stewart of "Twilight" as best actress; "The Dark Knight" for best special effects and (ta da) as best picture, narrowly edging out " Slumdog Millionaire."
Entrants also agreed on a favorite movie moment, also from the Batman film: that disappearing pencil trick introducing viewers to this Joker's particular brand of madness. Other faves:
"When in 'Slumdog Millionaire,' Jamal jumped into the poop just to get an autograph from his favorite actor."
"WALLE and EVE dance in space in 'WALLE.' "
"The joyful, end-credits Bollywood-style dance in 'Slumdog Millionaire.' "
" Tom Cruise's dance scene in ' Tropic Thunder.' "
"When hundreds of teenagers screamed every time Edward came on screen in 'Twilight.' "
Winners of the TAFFY drawing are Justin Smith of Clarendon Hills, Helen Pazen of Chicago and Ava Lindstrom of Arlington Heights. To all who responded, thanks for playing!
