Detroit Lions announce roster cuts
DETROIT - The Detroit Lions put running back Aveion Cason
on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury Saturday, leaving
the team without its projected kick returner.
Detroit also placed running back Brian Calhoun on IR, ending his
season, with a thigh-muscle tear and cut 20 players to get to the
mandatory 53-player limit.
The released players included running back Artose Pinner, a Lion
from 2003-05 who later played with Minnesota and Atlanta; wide
receiver Kenny Moore, drafted by Detroit in the fifth round in
April; linebacker Buster Davis, a third-round draft pick in 2007;
and former Michigan quarterback and New York Yankees prospect Drew
Henson, who was signed last week when quarterback Drew Stanton
sustained a hand injury.
Detroit opens the regular season Sept. 7 at Atlanta.
