Indie rock and classical made beautiful music together last night in Brooklyn, as Clogs and Bell Orchestre joined the Brooklyn Philharmonic for "Shuffle Mode", a collaborative concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House. Sufjan Stevens emerged from his secret lair where he's working on his next state album (we hope) to sing and play banjo, while My Brighest Diamond's Shara Worden took a break from preparing for her slot on the upcoming Decemberists tour to coo with the Philharmonic.

Though it wasn't billed as such, the concert served as a kind of reunion for many contributors to the excellent Dark Was the Night compilation, released last week. Dark Was the Night co-curator Bryce Dessner, guitarist for the National, is also a member of Clogs, and his brother Aaron-- also a co-curator and National member-- also showed up to play. Bell Orchestre members Richard Reed Parry and Sarah Neufeld do time in Arcade Fire, who contributed to the comp. Sufjan and My Brightest Diamond both appear on the compilation as well.
