Many people scoff and say it's macabre.... others say way cool. Whatever side of the fence you sit on, one thing is certain- everyone is fascinated by the Serial Killer. Doing justice to this dark subject in an amazingly artistic way is the entire line of "Serial Killer" products by The Purple Incorporated. The artist primarily responsible for everything from trading cards to calendars is Nico Claux. He describes his work as "a reflection on crime as a product of a society based on consumerism, where the killer has achieved the same status as the movie star." To start, there are three sets of limited edition trading cards, and on the back of each is a biography along with infamous trivia. 75 cards in all, 25 to a set. The artwork is rich, forcing you to examine their faces closely, looking for a sign as to why they committed these horrible atrocities.  Then we have the calendar. Each month includes an original piece by Claux, and to expand upon the cards lists a series of quotes by the various killers. The images are not atrocious or controversial- Claux achieves his goal of creating compelling imagery by telling their story through the intricately drawn lines in their faces, the haunting look he endows in their eyes and the terrifying secrets hiding behind their sinister grins. The conclusion to the trilogy is Serial Killer Magazine. It might be intimidating at first glance, but after you open the hardstock cover you discover a fascinating publication by a variety of talented contributing artists & writers from SerialKillerCalendar.com. There are interviews with both killers & experts, unusual trivia, comics & crosswords- serious attempts not to glorify these actions, but rather indulge the curiousity in all of us about these infamous characters in history.
