Conductor Semyon Bychkov cancels Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts
In the second cancellation at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in less than a week, Semyon Bychkov is out and Jaap van Zweden is in as conductor of subscription concerts March 19-21 at Symphony Center. Bychkov's management has advised him not to travel after a small surgical procedure. The revised program will retain the announced Liszt and Brahms works but substitute Wagenaar's overture "Cyrano de Bergerac" for Detlev Glanert's "Theatrum Bestiarum." Van Zweden scored a major success with the orchestra and public in October when he replaced Riccardo Chailly on short notice.
