Armstrong leads Homewood-Flossmoor to victory at St. Ignatius girls golf sectional
The final fields are set in both boys and girls golf as the last remaining sectionals were held Tuesday.
In girls golf, sophomore medalist Ashley Armstrong shot a 74 at the Class AA St. Ignatius sectional at Cog Hill #1 to lead Homewood-Flossmoor to victory with a team 309. Her fellow sophomores Michelle Mayer (76) and Ryann Gilley (79) also broke 80 for the Vikings, who figure to be the favorites at the state tournament this weekend.
Also qualifying was Loyola (309), lead by Somy Kim and Chelsea Michalek, who both shot a 78.
For the boys, medalist Chris Gray (73) led host Nazareth to a team 301 and a sectional title in Class 2A at Links of Carillion. His teammate Patrick Mullaney also shot a 73, although Gray won a tiebreaker.
Lemont (304) also advanced, beating out Yorkville on a fifth-card tiebreaker. Jimmy Loukota (75) led Lemont.
