Last month, we did a call for submissions asking Gay.com readers to send us your suggestions for the top 25 songs, movies and TV shows of the past 25 years. To say you participated would be an understatement: Our original call for submissions yielded more than 50 pages of suggestions from you. We narrowed down your suggestions to 25 per category and created polls for each. For the past month, you've been casting your votes for favorite song, movie and TV show of the past 25 years.
Amazingly enough, more than 20,000 Gay.com readers participated in these polls (wow!) and the results are in.
Drum roll, please ...
In the "favorite song" category, Madonna's "Vogue" was voted by you as the No. 1 song of the past 25 years. Congrats, Madonna! Cher's "Believe" came in second, pulling in 13 percent of the vote. No big surprises there, but we were surprised by Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" rating so high. With 9 percent of the vote, Clarkson came in third. Coming in dead last was Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It," which only drew 1 percent of your votes.
No shocker in the movie category. "Brokeback Mountain" won in a landslide, pulling in 30 percent of your votes, but we did find your No. 2 to be interesting. According to our tally, "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy placed an impressive second place, taking in 15 percent of the vote. Sam and Frodo would be so proud!
"The Golden Girls" was polling high for weeks in the TV category, but "Queer as Folk" fanatics must have mobilized at the last minute, pushing "QAF" into the No. 1 slot with 18 percent. "Golden Girls" placed a very close second with 15 percent, and third place was nabbed by "Will & Grace."
It will be interesting to see how the ratings for the new "90210" turn out, because the original came in dead last in our poll, with a sad 1 percent.
So that's that and now we want to know more: What do you think of these results? Do you agree, or do the results make your blood boil? Let us know in here in the Gay.com comments section.
