In a recent announcement, the Sci-Fi Channel—cable's home for Battlestar Galactica reruns and late night screenings of Mansquito and Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud—revealed that it is changing its name in an effort to get away from their image as a haven for, quote, "geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public." (Quote courtesy of Tim Brooks, who helped launch the channel).

The solution? Sci-Fi is now "SyFy."

...

But...?

Ummm...

sigh.

Exactly.

Naturally, "SyFy" is getting a big STFU from the geek universe, which is still smarting from the giant bite taken out of its feeding hand.

However, this news has inspired other channels to follow suit. Food Network will now be known as "ToFu" in order to diminish its reputation as the #1 viewing destination for unemployed fatties and Spike TV will now be known as "Oxygen por Homme."
