[edit] Early life and education

He was born to Edward Moore Kennedy, Sr. and Virginia Joan (née Bennett) Kennedy in Boston, Massachusetts. His siblings are Kara Kennedy Allen (born 1960), and Patrick Joseph Kennedy (born 1967).

In 1973, at age twelve,[clarification needed] cancer was diagnosed in his right leg. The leg was surgically amputated on November 17, 1973. On that same day his father had escorted Kennedy's cousin Kathleen down the aisle at her wedding before rushing back to the hospital after the wedding ceremony. A television film, The Ted Kennedy Jr. Story (1986), concentrated on this event in young Kennedy's life.

Kennedy graduated high school at the private St. Albans School in Washington, D.C.. He attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983. He continued at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in forestry and environmental studies. He then attended — at night — the University of Connecticut School of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree.

[edit] Career

After graduation he worked at the New Haven law firm Wiggin & Dana specializing in disability issues.

Marwood Group is headquartered in New York City, New York.

[edit] Political career

On May 10, 2007, the New York Post reported that — according to his brother Patrick — Kennedy was "eyeing a Connecticut Congressional seat".[1][verification needed] It has been suggested that Kennedy is a possible candidate to succeed his district's (Connecticut's 3rd congressional district) current U.S. Representative, Rosa DeLauro, when she retires.[clarification needed] He has also been mentioned by CNN as a possible successor for his father's U.S. Senate seat.[2]

[edit] Personal life

On October 10, 1993, he and Katherine Anne "Kiki" Gershman (born June 9, 1959)[3][verification needed] were married on Block Island, Rhode Island.[4] She is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine at Yale University and an environmental advocate. They live in Branford, Connecticut[5][6]

They have a daughter, Kiley Elizabeth Kennedy (born August 7, 1994 in New Haven),[7] and a son, Edward Moore Kennedy III (born February 25, 1998 in New Haven).
