Polytechnic (from the Greek πολύ-ς /po΄li-s/ much, many and τέχνη /΄teχni/ art) may refer to:

  • Polytechnic College, an educational institution in several countries, providing education which ranges from secondary or vocational education to higher education, including university level as in the case of a polytechnic university.
  • Polytechnic (Portugal), an educational institution in Portugal since the 1980s. After 1998 they were upgraded to institutions which are allowed to confer bachelor's degrees (the Portuguese licenciatura). In addition, after the Bologna Process in 2007, they have been allowed to offer 2nd cycle (masters's) degrees to its students.
  • Polytechnic in Greece, has a different meaning than other countries. It is considered as Technical University (University that has only Engineering Departments). It is a synonym of Engineering School. There are also Institutes of Technology, but are not called "Polytechnics". They are called as "Technological Training Institutes". The terms of "Engineering", "Polytechnic" and "Technical University", are for scientific-level studying, and not for Technology.
