Women's Tennis Defeats Loyola, 4-3

The Mason women's tennis team overcame a slow start in doubles and strong play from Loyola to win the match 4-3 against the Greyhounds in Baltimore. The Patriots improve to 5-6 on the season. After loosing all three doubles to fall behind 0-1, Mason rebounded with strong singles performances. Freshman Brooke Blackwell evened the score with her quick 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cailyn Day. Mason pulled ahead when Lindsay Gray finished off Rachel Janasek 6-1, 6-3 in the top singles match. Loyola tied the score at two all with a victory at fifth position when the Patriots Alicia Van Zandt lost. With a 6-3, 6-4 win at #4 singles, Sarah Dieffenbach put the Patriots back on top and Meredith Cutchin's 6-4, 6-4 win sealed the victory for Mason. Laura-Marie Blisk lost in a hard fought third set tie-breaker to end the scoring at 4-3. The Patriots and will travel to Howard next Wednesday to take on the Bison.
