[edit] Where's the dispute?

The dispute is about a section in Iran's article that discusses the Middle Ages period which was after the Arab Conquest of Persia (some called it post-Islamic Iran period). The discussion is running for let's say weeks now. The following list provides links to different sections related to the dispute:

  1. The disputed section: first version current version.
  2. talk#1: generic objections I have on that section.
  3. talk#2: discussion reboot with greater details.
  4. talk#3: another section found by another editor to rewrite the section after the first agreement on mentioning both streams of influence.
  5. talk#4: new section I created to explain my edits. It is the same section where I put the MEDCAB template.

[edit] What's the dispute?

The dispute is about the neutrality of the section. It has a strong chauvinist tone and mentions one historical side. I asked the editors to balance the section by highlighting the local changes instead of concentrating on how Iranians changed others. In more concrete terms:

  • I proposed giving more weight to political/social/economical landscapes during this period.
  • As for influences, we agreed that we should mention both streams of influence (how the conquest influenced Iran and how the Persian people influenced the empire they were part of).
  • Ibn Khaldun should not be quoted as it is a primary source (in addition translation of that quote is disputed among scholars; I provided sources on the talk page).
  • Opinions should respect the WP:ASF rule. For instance mentioning that "Bernard Lewis said...." not simply putting opinions as facts.

I accepted many compromises to omit many sourced material but almost none of my contributions were accepted (including opinions that go with their POV). I can provide you with detailed diffs if you would like. I hope I was not long and you would join us to reach a NPOV soon. Thank you.
