I've been hearing about this for the past week or so. It's like the media is treating it like another Y2K.

So did anyone's computer get affected by this virus?

I don't really think I was...
I doubt that its an April Fool's thing.
Dell made my computer update for what they were hoping to prevent it.

Could be, but this seems pretty big.

I don't know why anyone was afraid of this. If it's so well known that the mainstream media reports it, it's probably not dangerous anymore.

Exactly. Symantec, McAfee and Windows have had patches for it since October.

Really? That would be impressive, since Conficker A wasn't discovered until late November. The patch to close the original infection vector was released in October, but Conficker has become more sophisticated since that time. Here's a good overview on Conficker.

Seriously. I harp on my parents about this, but every time one of them has a computer problem and I use their computer every damned thing is like 3 months out of date. At least my mom finally upgraded so I can leave all the automatic updates on without bringing her computer to a halt.
