This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.

[edit] Standard procedures
If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation. As an alternative, you can leave a message on the contributing users talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.
Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.
When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as xrce, or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.
Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD G12 can be speedily deleted with {{db-copyvio}}, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.
When a page listed here has been translated, its entry can be removed (or moved to cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).

[edit] Boilerplate text
For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):
- 1. Use the notice {{Notenglish|NameOfLanguage}} if you know the language used, or {{Notenglish}} if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
This article needs translation into English. This article is written in a language other than English. If it is intended for readers from the community of that language, it should be contributed to the Wikipedia in that language. See list of Wikipedias. Please see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If the article is not rewritten in English within the next two weeks it will be listed for deletion and/or moved to the Wikipedia in its current language. If you have just labeled this page as needing translation, please add {{subst:Needtrans | pg = Pages needing translation into English | Language = unknown | Comments = }} ~~~~ to the bottom of this section of Pages needing translation into English. |
- 2. Add a mention on this page, using:
- {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~ replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language if you know which language was used, or {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~ if you cannot identify the language used
- 3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with {{Uw-english}}, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with {{contrib-xx1}}, where xx is the language code (available templates). An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is {{uw-notenglish}}. Usage is {{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|datein2weeksfromlisting}}~~~~.
If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:
- 1. Use [[Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation]].
- 2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
- ''Section [[#name-of-section|name-of-section]] contains text that needs translation into English.''.
- 3. Add a mention on this page.
If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:
- 1. Use the notice {{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
This article contains translated text and needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency. Please see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If you have just labeled this page as needing such attention, please add {{subst:Duflu | pg= Pages needing translation into English | Language = | Comments = }} ~~~~ to the bottom of Pages needing translation into English. |
- 2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section on this page.
[edit] Pages for consideration
and check the language recognition chart.
If you are sure, consider placing the corresponding template on the creator's talk page.

Needs translation from Arabic I believe. --OliverTwisted (Talk) (Stuff) 08:44, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- A machine translation from Arabic returns mostly gibberish. Farsi is more likely. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 14:13, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's Farsi. It's clearly a bio, and I'm not sure whether it's a claim of notability to say that the subject became a teacher in a University. Give it two weeks, or ship it to fa-Wikipedia. --Cbdorsett (talk) 21:14, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- You could check whether the subject passes the professor test. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 00:56, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Mushabbab asiri
The language of this article is Arabic. scientist of some sort - possibly notable Jac16888Talk 11:52, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
- I think it's a non-notable resume. Born in 1965, graduated med school 1991, worked at the Sulaymaniya children's hospital in Riyadh, worked at several other hospitals, worked at St. Luke's hospital in Dublin, Ireland in 2001, worked in oncology and hematology, in 2007 was working at the Amir Sultan hospital in Dahran, worked as ENT, and received dozens of awards in many countries, including Jordan, Egypt and Ireland. The text is formatted with bullets, which you can see when you edit it. It's obviously copied from some offline source - passes Google copyvio check. --Cbdorsett (talk) 21:39, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hyperredigering
The language of this article is unknown. Appears Scandinavian. TNXMan 14:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's Danish. Literally "Hyper editing". Allegedly a term for editing / preparing printed text material for use on the Internet. At first glance it seems like a rather non-notable neologism. decltype (talk) 15:04, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Miranda de Ebro
This article was translated from a Featured Article on the Spanish Wikipedia. I started cleaning up the language, but more work needs to be done. --Cbdorsett (talk) 22:25, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- There is some truly awful English here, looks like machine translation: a bridge "consists of 6 arcs and it tells on stems both sides", "The present City council rises in the Seat of Spain from 1778". I think that for a lot of this we need to go back to the Spanish original and re-translate. - Jmabel | Talk 17:38, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- I did the 'Transportation' and 'Civil structures' sections, and will do more. Subsequent sections need a lot of work, but even preceding ones could still use a little. Unconventional (talk) 06:17, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Léon Gard
The initial language of this article was French. Page appears to have been auto-translated. Almost unreadable. Camillus 23:59, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ali Jasiqi
The initial language of this article was Albanian. Kosovan writer. I've done my best to rewrite but some of it read as if badly translated or machine translated. I'm still a bit confused as to which of his writings were short stories, which were novels and which were works he edited. Itsmejudith (talk) 21:51, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

The initial language of this article was Spanish. I copied this from the Spanish Wikipedia and translated using Google Translate. Please clean it up. Refering back to the Spanish Wikipedia may help. Thanks! Cssiitcic (talk) 18:42, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hello. I fixed the translation from the automated one into a more human one =). I also did a few tweaks as I translated it literally from the Spanish version.--Truco 03:15, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Tenore contraltino
The initial language of this article was Italian. This article is a translation from Tenore contraltino in the Italian Wikipedia. It's in English, but needs some polishing for idiomatic English expression and to ensure that the meanings intended in the original have been successfuly expressed in the English version. Preferably needs someone with expertise in opera or classical music. Voceditenore (talk) 11:10, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
