Drummer to the stars, Josh Freese, is selling himself to sell his new album, Since 1972. Inspired by the value-added packages offered by his buddy Trent Reznor for the last Nine Inch Nails release, Freese has come up with his own gift-with-purchase plan -- only his is a whole lot wackier.
Those that are willing to pay a little more than the base price for Josh's new solo album are offered a plethora of incentives. At the $50 price point you get a five-minute "Thank You" call from Josh, who promises...
This whole value package thing nearly killed me when I read about it, I hope he talks about the whole experience after someone forks out that kind of money. I'm sure it will be filled with interesting anecdotes. But besides that I heard the record and it's definitely interesting and enjoyable, it truly feels like a record made from someone who really just wanted to have fun doing what he loves and that's what I call art, not the music based upon what sells and what's hip. Now I just can't wait for that Devo record...
Great interview by the way
I'm not sure what's scarier: the fact that he's doing this or the fact that I was reading that list and thinking to myself "that's fucking cool, can I afford to burn a grand?" But yeah, Freese is awesome. And like those before me said, superb interview.
being a huge TOOL fan, when I first heard about APC, I wondered who Maynard could possibly get to rival Danny Carey. Josh just blew me away. He's just amazing.
Cool interview. I bet he gets a lot of the $50 takers. Hope he has plenty of minutes on his phone! Can't wait to check out his record though. He is an amazing drummer.
