Empire: Total War, the latest installment of developer Creative Assembly’s Total War RTS franchise, was the bestselling PC title in the States during March, according to the NPD Group.

Set in the 18th century, the Sega published title maintains the series’ 3D battles and turn based campaign map while for the first time introducing 3D naval combat to the franchise.

A new entry on the monthly chart, Empire: Total War held off competition from February's two bestsellers, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King and The Sims 2 Double Deluxe, to take the top spot.

Here’s the full top 20, with last month’s chart position appearing in brackets:

Isn't any better or worse than the 360/PS3 chart.

Simulation and RTS and RPGs oh my!

You just can't say anything without being labeled a troll, can you? :p

Considering PC is far superior to any other format this generation, I suggest you take your disparaging comments elsewhere.

Well, it is a PC chart dumb-ass.

Lol, geez guys. I wasn't complaining, just making an observation. I have nothing against those genres. A little uptight tonight? This should cheer you up...

March U.S console sales, 360: 330k
March U.S console sales, PS3: 218k

Halo Wars March US sales: 639k
KZ2 life-to-date US sales: 619k (KZ2 effect on PS3 sales...zero, if anything, it was worse)

Resident Evil, 360: 938k
Resident Evil, PS3: 585k

PS3: -15.18% sales compared to March 2008
360: +25.95% sales compared to March 2008
Wii: -16.64% sales compared to March 2008

Are you ready? Get set...Spin!!!

edit: I did some spin-work for you guys. The PS3's lifetime-to-date U.S. sales are finally more than half of the 360's at 50.3%. Good thing the PS3 has 7 1/2 years left right? Phew.

Some proof the Playstation brand aint doing so well. The PS3, PS2, and PSP were the only systems out of all of them that had a first quarter drop since 2007.

NPD US Q1
Q1 2007
Q1 2008
Q1 2009

Wii
1,030,000
1,414,000
2,033,000

X360
721,000
746,600
1,030,000

PS3
501,000
806,800
697,200

DS
1,232,000
1,536,600
1,661,800

PSP
567,000
770,100
539,300

PS2
874,000
831,800
344,200

Looks like those potential PS3 owners may not be moving to the PS3. PS2 sales drop, PS3 sales drop, 360 sales increase, hmm...

And this is to do with PC games how?

Nick you're an idiot!

Top I was concerned about you since you seemed to be a little uptight last night, so I thought the news would cheer you up. And plus, EDGE was slow to release the NPD numbers so I figured an NPD article (albeit for PC games) was still the most appropriate of any of the stories from yesterday to post home console NPD numbers.

And watch the name calling!

Akuma's picture

Wrong article, perhaps?

What does that have to do with PC games? ;)
