Stardock CEO Brad Wardell has revealed that real-time strategy title Demigod is suffering ill-effects after huge numbers of illegitimate players flooded the servers.

Users have at times found themselves unable to log on to the online service ot the Demigod forums. “Even getting the game running was a pain today”, Wardell wrote on his blog.

“Sadly, most of the ~120,000 connections are not customers but via warez. About 18,000 are legitimate.

“So anyway, we spent a lot of time today trying to isolate out the warez users from the legitimate users (it would require a lot of surgery to actually break them and even if we did, there’d be no friendly “ha ha pirate” message which would result in people just saying the game is buggy).”

Wardell adds that the company's currently working "around the clock" to " shuttle off the warez users so that they’re not slamming our servers".

Its possible that the budget wasn't big enough for them to really add a story mode of any real worth. Demigod is much better looking than GalCiv2, and maybe more so than Sins (never played it), so chances are their budget got tied up in graphics and developing the multiplayer.

To be honest, what kind of singleplayer would it have? Probably be more like Street Fighter or any other fighting game in that regard! Not much - the meat of the game is meant for multiplayer @_@

I think you can still have a story line. The story line doesn't need to be a big budget to be susscessful. Have you ever played rts lord of the rings from EA. It's well done as far as story goes. I also think star dock has created a new genre with both sins of the solar empire and demi god. In fact older pc games had very simple low buget story lines.

these genres need names by the way. I highly recomend that they take a look at anet how they do the expansions. I hope and I would to see stardock keep it's demi god ip and exspaned on it. the models are cool the music rock,. the graphics is pretty hot. Star dock has some very creative game devs.

all stardock needs is a really good writer I personaly think stardock has some AAA thinking game devs. they are on their way to becoming great game devs. I highly recomend that they follow in the foot steps of great companies exmaples from blizzard,bio-ware, westwood and anet

yea it's pretty sad, I bought demi god game I can't install the up date. I changed my user name and can't reset my user name too. I don't blame stardock I blame gamespot. I find fishy the one company that supports pc gaming is having so much problems! I am starting to dislike micro soft sony gamestop more and more! I am not the only one, word is spreading across the net.

I am more than happy to buy demi god and support star dock even with the problems. I will not be buying any sony, mirco soft amd and gamespot products in the future!

Contact support; there's a chance you have a duplicate key.

I've already emailed Gamestop and told them why I didn't buy Demigod from them.

I'm playing Demigod on the Windows 7 public beta (64-bit) with a C2D 6300, GF 7900 GS w/256m (plus beta drivers), 4g RAM, and it runs quite well. No crashes, stability issues, etc. Windows 7 is working quite well for me, period. I know what my next OS is.

Disclaimer: I use OSX at work (newspaper). Its a great OS, but for me Macs are for (my) work, and Windows are for my personal life. There's not been any differences between the two in stability, but then I don't warez, do high-risk activities, or go installing every program that's out there because its free. The biggest source of trouble I've seen for Windows comes from its users - if properly taken care of (and its mostly "common sense") there are few problems.

Just remember: Macs are not invincible. Users are the weakest link in security, which is why the two OSX trojans out there are out there - http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=3157

Oh, and I'd be remiss in not suggesting: use both! With the Intel Macs you can run OSX, Linux and Windows. Best of all worlds :)
