Widespread BYDV can occur where aphids are allowed to spread within the field so aim to prevent the establishment of aphid populations. Look for aphids in cereals from crop emergence, be extra vigilant in early sown crops as well those drilled after grass or cereal stubbles. Where infestations are found, the contact action of a Decis spray will eradicate theearly migrants while a combination of contact and antifeedant action will disrupt new infestations over the next 3-4 weeks. In crops that required an early insecticide spray, check for new infestations from late October and treat again if aphids are found.
