Bruchus rufimanus
Bruchid beetle is often a serious problem in field bean crops grown for quality or seed. Adults emerge from hibernation as the temperatures increase during May. Oval shaped yellowish-green eggs about 0.5 mm long are laid on developing pods. These hatch in 1 - 3 weeks and the larvae then bore into the pod to attack the seeds. After 2-3 months the adult emerges leaving the characteristic exit hole.
