The American News is a newspaper in Aberdeen, South Dakota, published by Schurz Communications of South Bend, Indiana.
Schurz bought The American News from The McClatchy Company in June 2006 after McClatchy acquired Knight Ridder, the American News’ previous owner. The paper was one of 12 Knight Ridder papers that McClatchy sold because they didn't fit its profile of newspapers in a growing community.
On June 29, 2007, Publisher Jerome Ferson announced he was leaving the paper for the Lakeland Ledger.
