High Profile Screenwriters

Putting out one truly great screenplay like 'Jerry Maguire' or 'The Usual Suspects' is difficult work. Some, however, see it through. And some keep doing it again and again. Among the outstanding are screenwriters

Joe Eszterhas
Quentin Tarantino

and screenwriter/director,

James Cameron

creator of 'Titanic'.

People write for many different reasons, but the lonely work through the midnight hours is often the same. Sometimes it helps to keep in mind that roughly one screenplay a month is bought in Hollywood for a price exceeding one million dollars, and many more in the six figure range. Movies do get made, and writers do get paid.

Back in the eighties, beginner Shane Black sold his screenplay 'Lethal Weapon' for $250,000. A decade later he received $4,000,000 for 'The Long Kiss Goodnight'. His drifting thoughts at the keyboard were obvious from the beginning:

EXT. POSH BEVERLY HILLS HOME - TWILIGHT

This is the kind of house I will buy if this movie is a huge hit. Chrome. Glass. Carved wood. Plus an outdoor solarium...

An illustrated book about the making of James Cameron's epic 'Titanic', from the initial dives to the ship wreck on the bottom of the Atlantic in 1995 (by James Cameron himself), to the recreation of the ship by thousands of artists and craftsmen for the filming of the movie in 1997. This book is filled with pictures and illustrations that will take you back to the movie, to Jack and Rose, and to the site where the drama was brought to life.
