Eszterhas was born on November 23, 1944, in Czakanydoroszlo, Hungary. At the age of six, his family moved to the United States, where Joe's father began writing what would become 30 historical novels about the Hungarian émigré community of Cleveland.
1966, at the age of 22, Joe graduated from Ohio University, where he was the editor of the campus daily. He took jobs as a reporter for newspapers in Dayton and Cleveland, and later became a political correspondent for Rolling Stone. During his time as a reporter, he both won awards and created considerable controversy, something he has been doing ever since.
In 1974, Joe published a novel, 'Charlie Simpson's Apocalypse', which was nominated for a National Book Award. After hooking up with noted Hollywood director Norman Jewison, Eszterhas' script was produced as a film in 1978, 'F.I.S.T.', starring Sylvester Stallone.
In 1983, he wrote the blockbuster hit 'Flashdance', which set of his incredible career as a high-profile Hollywood screenwriter. He followed it up with 'Jagged Edge' (1985) and 'Betrayed' (1988), and later established his reputation as 'Hollywood's highest paid screenwriter' in 1992, after selling the script 'Basic Instinct' for $3 million. Since then, Joe has put out a number of controversial thrillers and sold every one in the seven figure range. And from what it looks like, he is not stopping. |

This book is filled with pictures and illustrations that will take you back to the movie, to Jack and Rose, and to the site where the drama was brought to life.
