If I didn’t know better I would think David Lynch was Italian. He uses his hands to describe ideas more than anyone I have ever met. It’s fascinating to watch this man communicate. He pulls out the cigarette pack, the lighter, moves the ashtray, lights the cigarette, puts the pack away the and then, once his hands are free, resumes emphasizing his words with enigmatic gestures. Lynch, a four-time Oscar nominee, remains one of the most enigmatic American filmmakers. He first entered the feature world...
i imagine he's a tough one to inteview. I've seen him speak and that's great, but at Q&A time it appears there are few things he likes less than questions. Love David's work and am very much looking forward to seeing this film.
[also, he's got some of the best hair in LA, and that's a serious statement.]

mhmmrr. makes sense i suppose. your questions *are* better posed than those of grad students and the like i heard at the Q&A.
Even if you're going on a intuitive feel, if you're true to those ideals, sometimes they've got these harmonics, if you dick with them, you might ruin the harmonics. They would be bad things and people would start smelling a rat. You may not even understand those harmonics, but somebody out there might and it's true on that level and it's true on the harmonic levels. So you've got to be real careful.
David lynch has a mind you or I can not even begin to understand...So why try!! He has always been advant garde and will always be ahead of the game!!! This man is a genius...Much respect to him and his years of hard work and dedication.......Peace
David Lynch: Did it freak you out?
DRE:
Yes, it did.
DL:
Doggone.
That was great. Lynch speaks like he's living in the 50s.
I saw a trailer for INLAND EMPIRE the other day and the music and one shot in particular was really creepy but I'm still not digging the DV thing. Apparentely once you're in the movie it pulls you in and you get used to it but we'll see.
If I hate it I can always come home and put on the Blue Velvet DVD
Favorite interview so far. Well done. I love Lynch's language, it reminds me of several of his characters. Not surprising, I guess. And to Zoetica...I was one of those grad students asking questions at a Q&A. I hope I didn't offend you
Some film friends of mine were talking about IE the other day and they were like "he didn't even have a script going in". I liked the way you set up your intro. This must have been a fascinating interview to do, and in person too. Amazing. Kudos.
Oh and ps Justin Theroux is a babeatron. I totally fell in love with his character in Mulholland Dr.
I've been wondering where this interview took place. Because two weeks ago my entire restaurant in Cambridge was bought out for David and his publicist to conduct interviews and do a meet and greet with people about to see his screening. Now I'm wondering if, in addition to seeing Mr. Lynch, that I may have also inadvertantly run into Mr. Epstein.

The more I learn about David Lynch the more I like him.
I love all his movies, they have always had a eerie appeal to me and that's the way I like it.
Really is a great interview
Lynch is one interesting mofo! Had the odd fortune to encounter Lynch during my childhood; was in Scouts with his brother and three nephews. Can't begin to imagine what's in that mind!
David Lynch is an enigma in my book. The man is more of a mystery, his mind lurking in dark shadows...and I simply adore the fact that he can paint the images from within his own twisted imagination into a movie. For the intelligent and artistic, evey piece of work he has done is a conversational mindfuck that everyone can explore and attempt to analyze together. Pure genius, hands down.
Cheers to Lynch, and definitely a great interview!
