I love tribal more than any other type of ink, i love the way it flows with the bodys contours, i love the simplicity of it, i love that its almost impossible to not be able to add to it and extend it.

But that is me

Most people i speak to who are heavily tattooed stray away from tribal and most people i see who are heavily tattoed have little to no tribal

My question is why the lack of tribal ?
Why does no one like tribal ?

If you like it cool. If you don't cool. Who cares what people think?

It's just a backlash from their popularity with people who get tattoos casually. Nothing inherently wrong with them, some of them look awesome. Just that most (though certainly not all) people who are really into tattoos tend to put a lot of thought into the significance and meaning of the design, and tribal is really just doodling. Cool doodling, but doodling.

But if you like 'em, by all means- go nuts. The picture you posted looks great. Some tattoos are just meant to look awesome.

I find it intellectually lazy and meaningless 99% of the time. There is some good tribal, but as a genre it bores me.

I like tribal if it actually flows with the body but like other people pointed out...stupid frat boys. lol. I want a huge tribal piece on my side. It's going to be beautiful. I hate the little "tramp stamp" with the butterfly/tribal thing that you see SO many girls with. ugh...boring. I think people should get what they want...maybe tribal doesn't appeal to some people...I don't like portrait tattoos usually....

lazy, maybe... but it's aesthetically pleasing, to me, where as i find less abstract images distracting as tattoos.

i mean, that said, i'd rather see one Twwly than ten bubbleheaded frat girls with tramp stamps. but when they're done well, like Voltaire's, i prefer tribal designs.

I hate most tribal, i've got a tribal "piece" on my belly, it curves under my little bit of a pot belly which I quite like... I'd like it covered with something a bit more intricate but it's really hard to cover tribal apparently so i'm reckoning a background for it might be a bit more appropriate...

And yet Jackson Pollock is considered a great artist. Go figure.

Hmm. Maybe art doesn't have to be complex or intellectual. Maybe it doesn't even need an intended meaning, beyond that which the observer chooses to impart on it. Maybe it's even possible to create art that appeals to the emotions by the very nature of it's simplicity. Maybe sometimes art is just decoration. Like jewelry. Or a tattoo.
