The Bureau consists of seven States Parties elected annually by the Committee: a Chairperson, five Vice-Chairpersons, and a Rapporteur.

At its 32nd session (Quebec City, 2008), the World Heritage Committee elected the following members of its Bureau (Decision 32COM 19):

• Chairperson: Mrs María Jesús San Segundo (Spain) 
• Rapporteur: Mr Antonio Otavio Sá Ricarte (Brazil)
• Vice-Chairpersons: Australia, Barbados, Kenya, Tunisia, United States of America.

The Bureau of the Committee coordinates the work of the Committee and fixes the dates, hours and order of business of meetings.

The election of the new Bureau will take place at the end of the 33rd session of the World Heritage Committee (Sevilla, 22-30 June 2009).
