Chris Daughtry is set to debut new material on the show that made
him famous. The singer announced today (May 1) that his band
Daughtry will return to "American Idol" on May 6 to perform its new
single, "No Surprise," during the show's Rock Week, which will also
feature a performance by No Doubt and former Guns N' Roses
guitarist Slash as the contestants' mentor.
Along with bandmates Josh Paul, Joey Barnes, Brian Craddock and
Josh Steely, Daughtry is currently recording the follow-up to his
self-titled debut, which has sold 4,422,000 copies according to
Nielsen SoundScan and was the best-selling album of 2007. The
band's as-yet-untitled sophomore effort is scheduled for a July 14
release on 19 Recordings/RCA.
"'American Idol' fans have been so loyal to this band, we wanted to
give them the first listen to our new single," Daughtry said in a
statement.
